Sick, sick, sick..

Everyone's getting sick recently due to the nasty weather. But I think Tara is the worst hit. As said before, she contracted chicken pox and was only back to school for less than 2 weeks, she contracted HFMD. Though a mild case, I felt both diseases affected her immunity greatly and she is so fragile now, she can catch the virus of someone sneezing 10 metres away!

Yeah, kidding.

But after her HFMD, she went back to school last Monday, only to catch another one of those deadly flu virus, and came back on Friday with a fever of almost 39 degrees. I thought she would be able to return to school the following Monday but I was dead wrong. She's currently at home with my MIL taking care of her. The dreaded fever was on and off for 1 whole week! And it just got worse last night. I was outside for a belated birthday dinner and Bob sms-ed and told me Tara's fever shot up to 39 again. This time, I'm worried because Bob said Tara wasn't alert nor active.

I know better now since Tara was admitted to hospital twice before, for high fever. Both times, the nurses told me that high fever in children is not a cause to worry, so long they are still alert and active. But if a child is listless and tired, even a fever of 38 degrees will require immediate medical attention.

As at this morning, Tara was doing pretty well, I heard. But I guess she was quite angry with me for slipping out when she took her afternoon nap (I was on leave), she told me she don't want Mummy, when I insisted that she sit upright when watching TV. She has this bad habit of lying down to watch TV and my MIL actually allowed that! Anyway, Bob told me she was dancing to her favourite Hi-5 when he left for work.

Now I just need to find out if there's any supplements that can boost her immunity. Is there any?

As for myself, I'm not even fully recovered and I find myself falling sick again. Guess the virus is now passing around between Bob, Tara and me. Even Bob is sick now. I kind of dread getting sick because the last time I did, it was pretty bad. My sore throat was so bad, I actually need to take painkillers to stop the pain. Without the painkillers, I can't even talk and eat properly. And I cough so much that speaking a full sentence is impossible for me. I went to this doctor near my parent's place and she gave me a strong antibiotic, that managed to cure my sore throat in only 2 days. To think that I was on painkillers for one week!

As for my cough, it kind of took longer to recover, a week more after my sore throat. And at night, it was almost impossible to sleep in peace. I remembered my colleague forwarded an email about stopping cough by applying Vicks Vaporub on the feet and wearing socks to sleep. It sounded ridiculous at first but having trying out of desperation, I'm glad to say that it works! I was able to sleep through the night. On days when I was lazy to use the vaporub, I would wake up in the mid of the night and cough till dawn break. Vaporub really works!

For now, I just hope that the 3 of us will get well soon. Bob, Tara and me.
